**SOLD OUT!**
Join Sommer and Paul Sobin for an intimate retreat in paradise with a week of daily asana practice, meditation, yoga nidra, and lots of time to rest, dream, and unwind in a sacred tropical setting. We’ll immerse in the magnificent natural beauty of Playa Hermosa (beautiful beach), take in spectacular sunsets, and let go of the stress of daily life lounging in a hammock, eating locally sourced fresh food, resting with community, and having the opportunity to simply be.
We look for hidden gems off the beaten path to offer an intimate retreat setting unlike any other. Our bespoke style retreats combine natural beauty coupled with simple elegance. The Pura Vida retreat is limited to 22 students in this magical place where we personally come to heal, replenish, and rest in nature.
In your free time you can choose to surf, snorkel, receive body work, explore the magnificent beaches, zipline through the jungle canopy, ride horses, rent ATV’s, head over to the waterfalls of Montezuma, or simply lounge in one of the many hammocks. The laid back vibe, rugged jungle landscape, and secluded, pristine beaches make for the perfect retreat experience.
Check in as at 3pm on June 25th, but if you arrive early, Batik’s friendly front desk will happily hold your bags while you head out to the beach or stop by a nearby restaurant. Our first yoga class will be held that evening followed by sunset and dinner. Check out is at 10am on July 2nd. See the FAQ below for more information about the retreat.
Batik Costa Rica is an intimate group of villas and casitas, located a few miles north of the relaxed bohemian town of Santa Teresa. From the moment you step onto the property of Batik you will be transported. The elegantly designed villas and casitas are built with Costa Rican hardwoods and bamboo. Beautiful patios, private pools, Balinese loungers, and hammocks everywhere invite us to soak up the jungle vibes. And we’re just a 4 minute walk to the most beautiful beach, Playa Hermosa. The retreat includes breakfast, lunch, and dinners, all prepared by a private chef.
Batik has several housing options. For solo travelers, be sure to reach out to us to put you in the best spot. You’ll have your own bedroom with a bathroom that you’ll share with someone of the same gender.
If you are traveling with a partner, the villas and casitas have king sized beds and we’ll assign you a room with your own bathroom.

We have been teaching yoga, meditation, tantric philosophy, and heart awakening practices for over 22 years. We love to travel the world and share in the majesty of wild and beautiful places with our fellow globe-trotting yogis. Our retreats are powerfully transformative and include yoga, meditation, community connection, and encouragement to simply be still as you live outside of time.
After several visits to the Nicoya Peninsula, including spending the whole summer of ’21 at Playa Hermosa, we are delighted to host you at Batik Costa Rica. We are confident that the moment you step onto the lush grounds of Batik you will begin to settle into the Pura Vida vibe that we all crave so much in our modern paced world. We can’t wait to be there with you!
Getting to this little slice of paradise does take a bit more effort than some more tourist-y travel destinations, and we truly believe that it’s worth it. There are a couple of suggested ways to get to Batik.
Option 1: Fly into the main airport in Costa Rica, San Jose Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO). From San Jose, there are 2 domestic airlines in the country: Green Airways and Sansa. We recommend Green Airways for your travel! Both airlines fly from/to San Jose Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) from/to Tambor Airport (TMU) (this is a small plane). From TMU airport, to get to Batik you can rent a car, hire a private taxi, or take a shuttle (it’s about a 45 minute ride from Tambor to Batik). If you wish to take a taxi or shuttle, Batik is more than happy to assist you with arranging this. Please contact them at conciergebatikcostarica@gmail.com.
Option 2: Our preferred option is to fly into Liberia Airport (LIR). From there you can rent a vehicle (definitely rent a 4×4) and use the Waze app for driving directions to Batik, which takes just over 3 hours. You can also hire a private driver for $200-$300, or take a shuttle. We suggest renting your own car, but if you’d like a private driver or shuttle, you can reach out to us and we’ll help you get set up. Most flights arrive in the early afternoon so if you are renting a car we suggest that you come a day early, pick up your car, and spend the night somewhere near Liberia before driving to Batik the next morning. If you need suggestions for where to stay near Liberia, please reach out to us.
7 night accommodations, 3 meals daily (except for one day), 2 yoga classes daily, blissful days and nights, and the most spectacular sunsets.
Not included is airfare, and any extras like massages, surfing lesson, excursions etc.
There’s a reason it’s called Beautiful Beach, and relaxing on this beach is amazing, but there are plenty of other things to do as well. There are gorgeous pools on the property, massages, horseback riding, ziplining, ATV tours, surfing lessons and a funky surf town a short taxi ride up the beach road.
For solo travelers, be sure to book a room in one of the villas. You’ll have your own bedroom with a shared bathroom and we will assign you a housemate of the same gender. If those are full, please reach out to us.
Bring a few casual warm weather outfits, yoga clothes, yoga props including your mat and a block/blanket, beach stuff (swim suit, flip flops, hat, sunscreen, reusable water bottle, etc) sturdy hiking sandals or sneakers (if you plan on doing excursions), books or kindle and a journal. You do not need any formal clothing for this trip.
As of now, Costa Rica does not require a Covid vaccine or other immunizations to enter the country. This is subject to change per the Costa Rican government, and many hotels and restaurants do require you to show a Covid vaccine card to enter.
